Major setback for Morocco ahead of the 2026 World Cup
The friendly match played on Sunday between Morocco and Norway in New Jersey (USA) has left a heavy toll for the Atlas Lions.
After taking a knock to his knee during the game, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli was forced to leave the pitch prematurely, sparking serious concern within the Moroccan staff just days before the kick-off of the 2026 World Cup.
Medical tests conducted on Monday have shed more light on the nature of the injury suffered by the Moroccan winger during this final warm-up, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Ezzalzouli likely to miss the World Cup!
According to Franco-Moroccan journalist Hanif Ben Berkane, a transfer market specialist for Foot Mercato, the first tests have revealed a medial collateral ligament sprain in the knee.
On his X account, the journalist stated: "The first tests on Abde Ez show a medial knee ligament sprain. He is expected to MISS the World Cup."
He added: "Further tests will be carried out, but he is expected to miss 3-4 weeks of competition."
