Manchester City: breach allegations, chairman Khaldoon Khalifa Al-Mubarak reacts

Manchester City was found guilty on Friday of 114 of the 115 charges brought against it following breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations. Faced with these allegations, the English club is in turmoil.

Despite appealing the decision, Manchester City does not intend to give up so easily. Indeed, in a letter published on the club’s official website, chairman Khaldoon Khalifa Al-Mubarak addressed Manchester supporters directly in an effort to reassure them.

“I have been part of this club for 18 years. I have had the privilege of standing alongside you at the Etihad, Wembley and in Istanbul. This club means a great deal to me, and you have shown and repeatedly reminded me how much Manchester City means to you. That is why I am writing to you today. Following the reports carried by the media, many of you will no doubt have spent your evening responding to questions and messages from your friends, family and colleagues. The same was true for me. Here is what I told my family: the proceedings initiated by the Premier League are still far from over, and our confidence and determination to prove the club’s innocence are just as strong as they were at the beginning of this case,” he wrote.

He added: “There is so much I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we are so confident in our position. But the strict confidentiality of the legal proceedings and our determination to respect it prevent me from doing so for the time being. Even this letter underwent several legal reviews to ensure that it complied with these rules (…),” he continued. “Although some people have rushed to draw their own conclusions and the noise around us is intense, nothing has changed. We have faced challenges together in the past and emerged victorious. There are still many who wish to undermine the momentum of our club. We will not give them the opportunity. Exciting moments await us after this international break. We will travel to Anfield in two weeks, then welcome Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium — moments that will give us the opportunity to celebrate the strength of the Manchester City family. Thank you, as always, for your unwavering support.”
