Manchester United reach agreement with Brighton for Carlos Baleba!
Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with Brighton for Carlos Baleba, who is expected to undergo his medical on Saturday.
The long-running transfer saga is nearing its conclusion. Fabrizio Romano has announced the imminent arrival of Carlos Baleba at Manchester United with his trademark "here we go". The Red Devils improved their offer after their initial financial package, estimated at £65 million, was turned down. The final amount of the deal has yet to be disclosed.
A medical under scrutiny due to ankle injury
According to Laurie Whitwell, the Brighton midfielder will undergo his medical on Saturday, August 22. This stage is particularly crucial as Baleba is currently recovering from a ligament injury to his ankle, sustained in early August during a training session in Vienna.
The tests forced the Cameroonian to miss the friendly against Strasbourg. His absence was initially expected to last a few weeks, although subsequent medical results proved more reassuring than first feared. Manchester United will need to assess his recovery progress before finalizing the contract.
Noticeable drop in Brighton statistics
Already revived as a target by Manchester United this transfer window, Baleba has just come off a difficult 2025-2026 season. The 22-year-old featured in 31 Premier League matches, starting 23, for a total of 1,653 minutes, but failed to register a goal or an assist.
By comparison, he scored three goals and provided one assist in 34 league games the previous season. Still under contract with Brighton until 2028, with an optional year, the Cameroon international was determined to join Old Trafford. One year after their initial failed attempt, United's persistence looks set to pay off—pending the medical and official announcement.
