Premier League / Arsenal - Coventry: the official line-ups are out!
The Premier League returns this Friday with a clash between Arsenal, the defending champions, and Coventry, back in the top flight after 25 years away.
The 2026-2027 Premier League kicks off this Friday at 8pm Algerian time at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal, crowned champions of England for the first time in 22 years, host Coventry, who won the Championship and earned promotion under Frank Lampard. Two champions set the stage for a season where everything could change.
Arsenal enters a season of confirmation
For Arsenal, this campaign is all about proving themselves. After three consecutive runner-up finishes, the Gunners reclaimed the throne before reaching the Champions League final. Their emphatic 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield showed they’re ready to defend their crown without fear.
The landscape of English football is changing. For the first time since 2014-2015, neither Jürgen Klopp nor Pep Guardiola is on a Premier League touchline. Manchester City ushers in the Enzo Maresca era, while Manchester United, third last season, hopes to build on their revival under Michael Carrick.
The official line-ups for Arsenal – Coventry
Arsenal’s official line-up: Raya - White, Mosquera, Gabriel, Calafiori - Rice (c), Lewis-Skelly, Odegaard - Saka, Tzolis, Havertz

A historic advantage for the Gunners
Arsenal and Coventry have met 70 times in the top flight: 39 wins for the Londoners, 18 draws, and 13 victories for the Sky Blues. Their last meeting dates back to February 3, 2001, when the Gunners claimed a 1-0 win at Coventry. But the promoted side still remembers a famous result: their 3-0 triumph at Highbury on the opening day of the 1993-1994 season.
The balance of power seems clearly in favor of the reigning champions. Still, Coventry return after a 25-year absence, carrying the momentum of a Championship title and the confidence instilled by Lampard. Arsenal must assert their authority: defending a title is often harder than winning it, and this opening night will already set the tone.
