Premier League: Arsenal lead Coventry 2-0 at half-time
Arsenal kicked off their title defense in style, taking a two-goal lead over Coventry before the break at the Emirates.
The 2026-2027 Premier League season opens under the sign of continuity. Fierce in their pressing, commanding possession, and flawlessly organized at the back, Arsenal quickly smothered Coventry. The Sky Blues barely managed to get close to David Raya's goal, while Mikel Arteta's men constantly won the ball back deep in opposition territory.
London's dominance paid off in the 15th minute. After Milan van Ewijk miscleared under pressure, Riccardo Calafiori pounced and whipped in a cut-back cross. Kai Havertz coolly slotted past Carl Rushworth with a precise first-time finish to open the scoring in this season opener.
Tzolis sparks Saka's second goal
New signing Christos Tzolis then played a decisive role. Released down the left by Declan Rice, the Greek winger fired in a powerful cross that Rushworth could only parry on his goal line. Bukayo Saka was perfectly placed to tap home in the 23rd minute.
Coventry, back in the top flight after a 25-year absence, struggled to keep up with the pace and never managed to trouble Arsenal. Having already lifted the Community Shield against Manchester City, the English champions head into the dressing room two goals to the good, confirming their impressive form.
