Miguel Cardoso provides worrying Khuliso Mudau injury update
Interview
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has provided a worrying injury update on Khuliso Mudau following their 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night.
The Bafana international was stretchered to the tunnel after what seemed like a niggle, and was subsequently replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa in the 38th minute at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Mudau has been a mainstay at right-back since signing for the Brazilians from Black Leopards in 2020, and has made four appearances across all competitions this season, chipping in with a solitary assist in the process.
Cardoso confirmed the 31-year-old full-back suffered a major injury blow, and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, having ruptured his Achilles, which takes up to six to 12 months to recover from.
“Unfortunately, today we got a severe injury from Khuliso Mudau and he will be out for sure for a long, long, long time,” said the Downs mentor.
"It's an Achilles rupture, so he will be seen by the specialist tomorrow and operated on for sure the day after so that he can start the recovery process.
"But that we don't control, it was even an action where he was alone, there was no contact, it was not a tackle from an opponent.
"It happens, like the accidents happen in car races, also in football sometimes injuries like these happen. We work to avoid them but we don't control them.
Sundowns, meanwhile, return to action with the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final clash against Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
