Phuti Mohafe pinpoints area of improvement as Marumo Gallants drop bottom
Interview
Marumo Gallants head coach Phuti Mohafe has pinpointed a major area of concern following their 2-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa succumbed to goals from Malibongwe Khoza and Cassius Mailula in either half, which stretched their winless run in the league to three matches, with two losses and one draw.
Gallants, however, limited the African champions to only seven shots on target from a total of 21 attempts at goal, with Mohafe stating the match helped gauge his team's progress.
“If you remember at the launch of the Betway Premiership I said I would have loved to start with Sundowns because that was going to be the real test for us to see where we are,” said the Limpopo-born tactician.
"And now we've played them, we already played three matches, and I think this one is the match that I can say we have learnt a lot of lessons from.
With his team now rooted at the bottom of the Betway Premiership table, the former Polokwane City mentor has bemoaned the lack of cutting edge, and insists their position on log is not a true reflection of their performances.
“If you can go and check starting from the first match how Marumo Gallants played and you reflect and review how we played, you will see that most of the matches we have possession,” Mohafe added.
"But the main factor is putting the ball in the back of the net, that is the main factor, so that [position on the log] is not the true reflection.
Gallants will be looking to get off the mark when they entertain TS Galaxy at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in their next Betway Premiership outing on Tuesday, 26 August.
