Morocco: Achraf Hakimi will stand trial for rape

The Court of Cassation has upheld Achraf Hakimi’s referral to the criminal court in the case concerning an alleged rape dating back to 2023.

There has been a new judicial development concerning Achraf Hakimi. The Court of Cassation on Wednesday, September 23, upheld the referral of the Paris Saint-Germain defender to the Hauts-de-Seine departmental criminal court in the case concerning an alleged rape dating back to February 2023, according to a judicial source cited by AFP.

The decision comes after the appeal filed by the Moroccan international at the end of June. On June 19, the investigating chamber of the Versailles Court of Appeal had already upheld his referral to trial, which had been decided at first instance in February 2026.

Defense’s final appeal rejected

The Court of Cassation does not rule on the facts themselves or on the player’s guilt or innocence. Its role is to verify that the lower courts correctly applied the rules of law and procedure. The rejection of the appeal therefore allows the referral proceedings before the criminal court to continue.

Hakimi has denied the accusations against him from the outset. Indicted in March 2023, he remains presumed innocent until a final conviction has been issued.

Case ongoing since February 2023

The alleged events date back to February 2023. A young woman had stated at the time that she had been raped at the player’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt. After several years of investigation, a judge ordered his referral to the departmental criminal court in February 2026.

After the Court of Appeal upheld his referral in June, Hakimi publicly responded by saying that he was looking forward to the trial so that he could present his version of events.

Trial date yet to be set

At this stage, no hearing date has been officially announced. According to several French media outlets, the trial could take place in 2027, although no schedule has been confirmed for now.

Alongside these proceedings, the player continues his career with PSG in Ligue 1 and with the Moroccan national team. The next step will now be to set the date of his trial before the competent court.
