Most expensive night: World Cup final tickets hit shocking prices

FIFA’s World Cup 2026 final at MetLife is turning into the most expensive ticket hunt of the tournament.

The World Cup 2026 final is scheduled for 19 July at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York. But before the two finalists even walk out, the match has already created a major talking point, ticket prices.

AP reported that FIFA recently had nearly 1,200 category two seats available for the final at $7,380 each.

That figure alone is far beyond what many football fans around the world would consider normal. Yet it is not even close to the top end of the market.

According to AP, FIFA was also selling 68 front category one seats in the lower deck for between $19,995 and $32,970. Hospitality packages were priced even higher in some cases reaching $34,500 for selected lounge options.

ABC7 New York citing the Associated Press, reported earlier that FIFA had tripled the price of its best available final tickets to $32,970, with those seats listed as “front category one” on the official sales site.

French newspaper L’Equipe had previously noted that the original fan ticket structure included four main categories, with the top category reportedly priced at $11,000 and the cheapest at $800.

The latest prices show how dramatically the market has moved as the final gets closer.

Infantino defends the pricing logic

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has defended the pricing approach by pointing to the strength of the United States entertainment market. Sports Illustrated reported that he also joked about the huge backlash saying that if someone paid more than $2 million for a final ticket, he would personally bring that buyer a hot dog.

The joke may have been light, but the reaction from fans has been serious. For many supporters, the World Cup final is no longer just a football dream.

It is becoming an experience priced like a Super Bowl, NBA Finals or major boxing night.
