Press reports—citing information revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs—indicate that Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is planning to launch a new continental club association.

Recently announced in Copenhagen, the initiative is known as the "World Football Clubs" (WFC) project and aims to serve as the leading voice for global clubs and major sports entities, operating independently of other existing associations.

Not everyone agrees with Al-Khelaifi's idea at the moment

In the world of football politics, a significant shift is quietly taking shape. Many officials are now speaking openly about a new organization being built — one they regard as an unofficial seventh confederation, or rather a sixth, depending on how you count. Its purpose? To mount a direct challenge to FIFA's long-held monopoly and to Gianni Infantino himself.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, for his part, has made it clear that what began as a European structure has grown far beyond its original borders. It has become, in his words, a global network and platform — one that allows clubs to build their own independent connections and to defend their interests in ways that reach well past Europe.

This new force did not emerge in a vacuum. It arrives at a time of open warfare between continental football authorities and the world governing body. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has been especially vocal, launching fierce criticism at FIFA's leadership, while disagreements over the international calendar continue to deepen.

To put things in perspective: Nasser Al-Khelaifi has led the European Club Association since April 2021, while Gianni Infantino has held the FIFA presidency since February 2016.
