Negreira case: FC Barcelona reacts to UEFA statement
FC Barcelona has officially reacted to UEFA's communication regarding the Negreira case. While Real Madrid has submitted a substantial dossier to the European governing body on payments made by Barça to the former vice-president of the Spanish Technical Committee of Referees, the Catalan club points out that an investigation has been ongoing since 2023 and that no new procedure has been opened.
Real Madrid submits new documents
The Negreira case continues to make headlines in Spain. Real Madrid recently sent UEFA a set of documents concerning payments made by FC Barcelona between 2001 and 2018 to José María Enríquez Negreira, then vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees. According to the information reported, the payments in question amounted to approximately €8.4 million.
Real Madrid believes that these payments should be examined as part of the investigation. For its part, FC Barcelona has always maintained that the sums corresponded to technical consultancy services and analyses related to refereeing, rather than an attempt to gain an advantage with referees.
Barça says no new procedure has been opened
In its statement, the Catalan club insists that UEFA has not launched a new procedure against it. Barça recalls that the European investigation began in 2023, with the appointment of two investigators, and has never been closed. According to the club, UEFA's recent communication merely confirms the receipt of the documents submitted by Real Madrid and their examination במסגרת the investigation already under way.
FC Barcelona also points out that, in its view, the European governing body's statement contains no conclusion on the substance of the case and no assessment of the value of the new evidence. The club says it will respond to any requests from the authorities at the appropriate time, as it claims it has always done since the beginning of the investigation. To be continued.
