Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan (34 years old) made sure to express his gratitude after officiating the UEFA Super Cup, held Wednesday night between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa.

PSG came out on top 2-1, with goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué, while Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for the Villans. This victory grants the Parisian club its first trophy of the season.

The referee also expressed his appreciation to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), noting that their support was crucial in his journey.

A tribute to Somali supporters

Omar Artan then delivered a heartfelt message to the Somali people, with a special thought for fans who traveled long distances to support him.

"I send a greeting filled with affection to all Somalis, especially those who journeyed from distant countries to be present. Thank you for waving the Somali flag in the stadium and for carrying the love of your country with such pride."
