The Egyptian national team climbed three spots to 26th in the latest FIFA rankings this week following their unbeaten World Cup group stage run.

A timely psychological boost

Egypt's resilient performances in Group G, consisting of an opening draw against Belgium, a historic victory over New Zealand and a dramatic tie with Iran, have yielded immediate rewards on the global stage.

FIFA’s official ranking update confirms the Pharaohs have moved up to 26th place worldwide.

This upward surge sees them leapfrog Turkey, Algeria and most notably, Australia. The timing of this ranking shift could not be more perfect. Hossam Hassan’s squad is scheduled to face the Socceroos this coming Friday in a high stakes Round of 32 elimination match giving the North Africans a clear psychological edge ahead of kickoff.

Chasing the continental elite

Within the African continent, Egypt maintains its fourth place standing trailing behind Morocco, Senegal and Nigeria.

However the gap at the top of the continent is rapidly closing. With Nigeria completely missing out on the World Cup 2026, the Pharaohs are capitalizing on heavy tournament weight points to potentially overtake the Super Eagles in the next official ranking cycle.

Global power shifts at the top

The latest FIFA release also revealed massive shakeups among football's traditional elite. France has officially reclaimed the world number one spot knocking reigning global champions Argentina down to second.

Brazil climbed to fifth while Morocco achieved a historic milestone by reaching sixth place, the highest global position ever secured by an African or Arab nation.

Meanwhile, tournament co-hosts Mexico broke into the top ten in ninth place pushing Belgium down to tenth. Colombia moved up to eleventh dropping a struggling German side down to twelfth.
