Foot Africa has it on good authority that Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe is set to part ways with the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.

The 52-year-old mentor took over the reins on an interim basis in the wake of Lehlohonolo Seema's exit to provincial rivals Sekhukhune United in November 2023.

He was subsequently entrusted with steering the ship permanently, owing to his tactical acumen and defying the odds despite operating on a modest budget.

Rise and Shine swiftly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with under the guidance of Mohafe, securing three successive top eight finishes since their promotion.

City finished the just-ended 2025/26 campaign in seventh place with an impressive 40 points accumulated in the rigorous Betway Premiership.

Now, sources have told this publication that Mohafe bid farewell to the players and the technical team, putting an end to his second stint at the club.

The former Royal Eagles boss is understood to have attracted interest from Marumo Gallants, who are in the market for a new coach after surviving the chop last season.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu are also said to be monitoring Mohafe's situation amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Arthur Zwane ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Whether the Limpopo-born gaffer will be based in Bloemfontein or KwaZulu-Natal next season remains to be seen, with his availability proving to be a good market opportunity.
