PSG: This political banner could cost dearly
Paris Saint-Germain could face the consequences of an action by its supporters. During the match against Le Mans, members of Collectif Ultras Paris displayed a political banner in the stands. The incident could lead to financial sanctions or even restrictions on supporters’ access to the stadium.
A banner at the heart of the protest
The banner displayed by the Parisian ultras carried the message: « Your militia represses, our youth resists ». The slogan was linked to student and high-school protests organized in France over difficulties within the education system. Security personnel quickly intervened in an attempt to remove the message.
In response, the supporters chanted « Freedom for the ultras » before temporarily leaving their section. They returned to their seats at the start of the second half. The action thus went beyond the sporting context of the match, drawing attention to tensions between supporter groups and security measures.
Potential sanctions for PSG
According to Foot Mercato, the regulations governing the competitions concerned restrict the display of political, ideological or philosophical messages inside sports venues. PSG could therefore face sanctions if the relevant authorities determine that an infringement has been committed.
Among the potential consequences are a fine and, in a more severe scenario, the partial or complete closure of the stands for one or more matches. At this stage, no official sanction has been announced. The exact nature of any measures will depend on the competent authorities’ review of the incident.
