RD Congo: Gaël Kakuta joins the squad for AFCON 2025

It’s official: Gaël Kakuta is making his return to the DR Congo national team. He has been called up as reinforcements for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In Group D of AFCON 2025, alongside Benin, Botswana, and Senegal, DR Congo is already without Anderlecht’s attacking midfielder Mario Stroeykens. Sidelined due to injury, Stroeykens is replaced by Gaël Kakuta (Sakaryaspor).

“Due to an injury sustained with his club during his last match, Mario Stroeykens will unfortunately not be able to participate in AFCON 2025. The technical staff has decided to recall Gaël Kakuta,” announced the Congolese Football Federation (Fecofa) on its official social media channels.
