Real Madrid: Mourinho thanks Rome after a completely crazy evening
The day after Real Madrid’s crazy victory in Rome, José Mourinho made a point of thanking the Romanisti for their particularly warm welcome.
José Mourinho has not forgotten Rome. Back at the Stadio Olimpico with Real Madrid to face his former club in the Champions League, the Portuguese coach experienced an emotionally charged evening, both on the pitch and in the stands.
“Thank you, Rome, thank you, Romanisti”
The day after this spectacular comeback, Mourinho above all remembered the welcome he received from the Roma supporters. On Instagram, he posted a particularly touching message:
“When the best moments of a long career are neither the goals nor the victories, but the emotions for which I can only humbly express my gratitude. Thank you, Rome, thank you, Romanisti. Eternal emotion and gratitude to you.”
A message that perfectly sums up the special relationship the Portuguese has maintained with the AS Roma supporters, despite his departure from the club in January 2024.
138 matches and a European title with Roma
Mourinho managed 138 matches from the Roma bench between 2021 and 2024. His spell was above all marked by winning the Europa Conference League in 2022, beating Feyenoord 1-0 in the final. It was the only trophy the Portuguese won with Roma.
A year later, he also guided the Giallorossi to the Europa League final, which they lost to Sevilla FC on penalties. The two European campaigns durably strengthened his bond with the Roma supporters.
On Wednesday evening, despite their team’s painful defeat to Real, the Romanisti once again showed that they had forgotten nothing about the “Special One’s” time in the Italian capital.
