The second matchday of the Champions League league phase, played on Tuesday and Wednesday, was marked by contrasting fortunes for the Spanish clubs and those from Serie A.

Indeed, all the representatives of La Liga won their matches. Meanwhile, the Serie A clubs suffered four defeats that raise many questions.

All the Spanish teams deliver

Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Villarreal, Real Madrid and Real Betis each won their match. The Catalans dominated Galatasaray (4-1), notably thanks to an impressive performance from Lamine Yamal, who provided two assists.

Atlético Madrid did what was necessary against Manchester United (2-0), erasing the defeat they suffered at Anfield against Liverpool’s Reds (2-1) on the first matchday.

Real Madrid snatched a spectacular victory against Roma (4-3), while Villarreal defeated Napoli (3-1). Finally, Real Betis secured an impressive win against FC Porto (3-2) thanks to an Isco penalty, scored six minutes before the final whistle.

Italy pays dearly for its mistakes

The evening was far more difficult for the Serie A representatives. Inter Milan lost at home to Club Brugge (3-4). The man who condemned the Nerazzurri was Nicolo Tresoldi, who scored a hat-trick.

AS Roma also endured a painful end to the match. After taking a (3-1) lead against Real Madrid, they saw their advantage disappear before losing (4-3).

Napoli suffered a setback against Villarreal after taking the lead early in the match. Finally, Como were beaten by Feyenoord (3-2).

These results reflect the decline in the level of the Italian clubs, who are struggling to compete with their opponents from other countries, particularly the Spanish teams, who are making clear progress this season.
