Santos' qualification for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup was overshadowed by yet another controversy involving Neymar. After a goalless draw in the first leg (0-0), Peixe claimed a 1-0 victory on the pitch of Club do Remo thanks to a goal from Rony.

Rested at kickoff, Neymar came on at halftime and played only 45 minutes. That was enough for him to become Santos' main attacking threat and deliver a decisive assist to Rony. FotMob gave him a 7.6 out of 10, while Globo Esporte rated him 7.5. The number 10 could even have put the game to bed, but his attempted lob missed the target by a wide margin.

Provocations spiral out of control

After the final whistle, tensions flared abruptly in the area leading to the locker rooms. Neymar exchanged a series of insults with Remo officials before kissing the Santos badge, flexing his muscles, and repeatedly shouting: "Eliminated, eliminated".

Remo officials and some opposing fans responded with insults and obscene gestures. Barriers were even knocked over, forcing security personnel to step in. However, the available footage does not make it possible to determine exactly how the altercation started.

Antonio Carlos, nicknamed Tonhão, president of Remo, later called Neymar a "good-for-nothing" while condemning his behavior. Just minutes earlier, the former PSG star had already clashed with several supporters in the stands.

Retirement still on the table

This latest controversy comes as the 34-year-old's future remains up in the air. Neymar has already ended his career with the Brazilian national team after the 2026 World Cup, capping his international journey with 80 goals in 130 appearances.

As for his club career, no final decision has been made yet. Under contract with Santos until December 2026, Neymar is still leaving the door open for a possible professional retirement. He says he still feels physically strong, but wants to take it one match at a time before choosing between an extension, one last adventure, or a final farewell.
