Scott McTominay: future at Napoli threatened by wage disagreement
Scott McTominay’s future at Napoli could be uncertain. While the Italian club wants to keep its midfielder, negotiations over a contract extension remain deadlocked. According to Corriere dello Sport, the player’s wage demands are reportedly the main sticking point.
McTominay reportedly demanding up to €9 million per year
Signed from Manchester United in 2024 for around €30 million, McTominay quickly established himself as an important member of Napoli’s squad. Keen to secure his future, Napoli have been in talks for several months with the Scotland international, whose current contract runs until 2028. However, the two sides are reportedly struggling to reach an agreement over the financial terms.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 29-year-old is reportedly asking for an annual salary of between €8 million and €9 million. That figure would exceed the budget Napoli would be prepared to allocate to the extension.
A transfer being considered for summer 2027
With no progress in the talks, a departure during the summer 2027 transfer window cannot be ruled out. This option would allow Napoli to collect a transfer fee before the player’s contract enters its final year. The club would thus avoid finding itself in a weaker position during future negotiations.
The coming months will therefore be decisive: Napoli will have to decide whether it can meet its midfielder’s financial expectations or whether it should consider a sale as early as next summer. In the meantime, the contract extension remains at a standstill and the Scot’s future remains uncertain.
