Senegal: Ministry of Sports orders Senegalese Football Federation to remain silent

Following the controversial press conference held by the Senegalese Football Federation, the Ministry of Youth and Sports responded swiftly. The ministry has requested the federation to immediately cease any public statements regarding the participation of the Teranga Lions in the 2026 World Cup.

Putting an end to fueling the controversy

Tensions have risen dramatically. In a statement released on Tuesday, July 14, the ministry, led by Giraï Clotilde Collé, issued a stern warning to the Senegalese Football Federation. To bring this situation under control, the ministry ordered the federation to immediately halt all media communications on this matter, emphasizing that no further interventions, statements, or media appearances would be tolerated.

Damaging the country's image

The ministry confirmed that it is closely monitoring the ongoing public debates and statements regarding Senegal’s World Cup participation, stressing that repeated remarks only fuel a pointless controversy. The ministry believes such statements harm Senegal’s image and credibility on the international stage.

Official report to be released

The state, for its part, has affirmed its responsibility and announced that an official report will be prepared to shed light on all the details of this World Cup participation. The ministry stressed that the assessment would be comprehensive and precise, strictly adhering to official procedures and with the seriousness the matter demands.

A press conference that sparked widespread controversy

This decision comes after the press conference held by the Senegalese Football Federation the previous day. Several officials, led by president Abdoulaye Fall, addressed sensitive issues such as decisions made during the World Cup, the termination of former coach Pape Thiaw's contract, as well as matters related to organization, workflow, nutrition, and even the national team doctor.
