Senegal: Senegalese Sports Medicine Association defends Dr. Fediour and demands apology from Senegalese Football Federation

The Senegalese Sports Medicine Association is moving quickly to defend Dr. Fediour just hours after statements made by Abdoulaye Fall. On Monday, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation declared that the Lions of Teranga's team doctor is "a gynecologist by training". This came during a press conference in which Abdoulaye Fall explained the reasons behind Senegal's early exit from the World Cup after a 3-2 defeat to Belgium.

Firm denial

In an official statement, the Senegalese Sports Medicine Association announced its "full support" for Dr. Abdourahmane Fediour. The association labeled the statements as "baseless and defamatory," demanding a "public apology," while reserving the right to pursue legal action.

Evidence from the Senegalese Sports Medicine Association

The association highlighted the résumé of the Lions of Teranga's head doctor since 2017. Dr. Fediour holds a postgraduate diploma in sports medicine and biology from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD), and has taken part in more than five editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025) as well as three World Cups: Russia 2018, Qatar 2022, and 2026 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

He has also served as lead physiotherapy doctor at Fann Hospital, accompanied clubs in football, handball, and cycling, and works as a medical officer for both the Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

Dr. Fediour previously stated in 2018 that he is originally a gynecologist, but his passion for sports led him to pursue specialized courses in sports medicine.
