Despite a perfect 6/6 record and top spot in Group C, Hervé Renard is not satisfied with the Elephants' performance against Somalia in the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The French coach gave an unfiltered assessment at the post-match press conference. “I noticed an Ivorian team that was very complacent and wasteful,” he said.

At the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, the Elephants struggled against the Somali defence for a long time before making the difference late in the match, in the 89th minute through Yann Gboho for his first goal for the national team, and in the 90+5th minute through Bazoumana Touré.

A very demanding Renard

Highly demanding, the coach expects more from his players despite the perfect start to this 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. After a 2-0 win over Ghana and a 2-0 victory against Somalia, the Elephants must now conclude the international break with a friendly clash against Cameroon on October 3.
