Spain was caught off guard by Cape Verde (0-0) this Monday in their opening game of the 2026 World Cup. The draw has kicked off a true media storm on the other side of the Pyrenees. Lamine Yamal has finally broken his silence.

Touted as the tournament favorite, Spain disappointed with its lack of attacking inspiration and inability to break through Cape Verde's defensive wall. Starting the match on the bench, Lamine Yamal took to Instagram after the game to speak out.

"First match of the World Cup and we picked up a point. We know the tournament is long and the goal is still far away, but we’ll keep working and everything will turn out as we hope, no doubt about it. I want to thank God for allowing me to play again after my injury, as well as my family, who are always by my side, supporting me and being with me every step of the way." wrote the Barcelona prodigy.
