The Norwegian federation seeks to appeal to FIFA after the Balogun affair

At the center of the controversy is the intervention of U.S. president Donald Trump. He admitted to having asked Gianni Infantino to review the red card handed to Balogun, claiming the punishment was unjust. Shortly thereafter, FIFA suspended the sanction, allowing the striker to play in the following match—a decision that sparked widespread criticism throughout the football world.

For Lise Klaveness, this issue should not be "swept under the rug." The Norwegian official is demanding greater transparency regarding the process that led to this decision, and wants Gianni Infantino to publicly acknowledge that a mistake was made. According to her, the independence of disciplinary bodies is essential for the credibility of international competitions.

This latest initiative is in line with the Norwegian federation's ongoing stance against the governance of FIFA. In recent months, the NFF had already backed a complaint related to FIFA's awarding of a "Peace Prize" to Donald Trump, arguing that such recognition violated the organization's principle of political neutrality.
