The arrival of Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor could be a game-changer for Paul Onuachu. After finishing the 2025-2026 season as Süper Lig top scorer, the Nigerian striker now welcomes alongside him one of the finest playmakers of his generation. On paper, this partnership could set the league alight.

Paul Onuachu has just come off a remarkable campaign. In 30 league matches, the Super Eagle netted 22 goals and provided 2 assists, finishing as the Süper Lig's joint top scorer alongside Eldor Shomurodov. Across all competitions, his tally rises to 26 goals in 36 appearances.

Yet, behind this impressive efficiency, Onuachu hasn’t really had a dedicated provider. The stats show Pina gave him three assists, while Zubkov and Oulaï each delivered two. The remaining six players who set up his goals each did so just once. The Nigerian often had to convert chances without a dominant creator regularly supplying him.

Salah, the playmaker Onuachu always dreamed of

This is precisely where Mohamed Salah’s arrival could change everything. The Egyptian is a prolific scorer, but he built much of his legend at Liverpool thanks to his ability to create chances for teammates.

Before leaving the Reds, Salah had delivered 94 assists in the Premier League, with 93 coming for Liverpool—making him the club’s all-time leading assist provider in England’s top flight. Across his Liverpool tenure, he finished with 257 goals and 123 assists in 441 matches in all competitions.

His creative output peaked notably in 2024-2025, with 18 assists in the Premier League, on top of 29 goals.

A complementary duo that could hurt the opposition

The profiles of these two players seem particularly compatible. Salah loves to cut in from the right, drift centrally and pick out his teammates in the box. Onuachu, standing at around 1.99m, with his aerial prowess and presence in the penalty area, is precisely the type of target who can turn the Egyptian’s crosses and passes into goals.

The aim, then, could be to help Onuachu convert even more opportunities and perhaps surpass his 22-goal tally.

And the chances will certainly come. Trabzonspor will compete in the Süper Lig, the Turkish Cup, and the Europa League after finishing third in the league and securing a spot in European qualifiers. The club also holds the Turkish Cup, won in May 2026.

So, as the fixtures come thick and fast, the Salah-Onuachu connection could become one of the season’s main attractions. Turkey’s top scorer now has a world-class provider by his side. What remains is to turn that promise into reality on the pitch.
