Transfer: Tolu Arokodare Joins Ajax on Loan with Option to Buy

Ajax Amsterdam have officially announced the signing of Tolu Arokodare. The Nigerian international joins the Dutch club on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton, with an option to buy. Should Ajax activate the clause, the 25-year-old striker will remain in Amsterdam until the summer of 2027.

The move marks Arokodare's return to the Eredivisie after a season in England. During his time with Wolverhampton, he made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists. Those numbers fell short of the impressive statistics he produced during his spell in Belgium, where he established himself as one of the league's most consistent forwards.

A Return to the Netherlands to Rediscover His Best Form

Developed in Nigeria, Tolu Arokodare first made his mark in European football with Latvian side Valmiera FC before going on to represent FC Cologne, Amiens SC and KRC Genk.

It was in Belgium that the centre-forward truly reached another level. During his time at Genk, he made 113 appearances, scored 41 goals and registered eight assists. Those performances earned him a move to Wolverhampton and the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

After a mixed campaign in England, Ajax are hoping the Nigerian can rediscover the form that made him one of the standout strikers in the Belgian Pro League.

Ajax Counting on His Profile to Strengthen Their Attack

Technical director Jordi Cruijff highlighted the qualities the club was looking for in its new striker.

"With Tolu, we are bringing in a striker with a profile that is unique within our squad. He is a physically strong player who has already proven his ability to score goals," he said.

For his part, Tolu Arokodare expressed his excitement about joining the Amsterdam giants.

"This is a great club. I want to help the team, score goals and contribute to bringing Ajax back to the top," the Nigerian international said.

A Key Addition to Ajax's Ambitions

Following a season that fell below expectations, Ajax are determined to return to the top of the Eredivisie and qualify once again for the UEFA Champions League. The signing of Tolu Arokodare reflects the club's ambition to strengthen its attacking options with a player who already has significant experience in European football.

If the striker can reproduce the goalscoring form he displayed at Genk, he could quickly establish himself as an important figure in Ajax's attacking setup.
