UEFA Champions League, PSG humiliate Barça 4-2!
Paris Saint-Germain secured a spectacular victory over FC Barcelona (4-2), inspired by Lucas Hernandez and a decisive end to the match.
The spectacle lived up to expectations this Tuesday, October 20, at the Parc des Princes. On matchday three of the Champions League league phase, Paris Saint-Germain beat FC Barcelona 4-2 after a match full of twists and turns. The two-time reigning European champions managed to regain the lead twice before finally making the difference in the closing minutes.
Doué puts PSG ahead, Barça respond after the break
The deadlock was broken in the 38th minute, when Désiré Doué opened the scoring with a long-range strike, with no assist credited. After the break, Barcelona drew level through Xavi Espart (55th), who was played in behind by Fermín López.
Paris regained the lead in the 72nd minute: from a corner taken by Doué, Lucas Hernandez headed home at the far post. The advantage did not last long, however. Set up by Gerard Martín, Lamine Yamal (79th) equalised with a shot from a tight angle, completely reopening the contest.
Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz turn the match around late on
PSG needed just two minutes to respond. After a cross from Achraf Hakimi was cleared by the Catalan defence, Vitinha (81st) collected the ball on the edge of the box and struck a decisive volley, with no official assist awarded for the move.
In the 86th minute, Fabián Ruiz sealed the Parisian victory at the far post, meeting a low cross from Hakimi. The Morocco international thus played a direct role in the final goal of an evening in which PSG's attacking transitions caused problems for the Barcelona defence. Before this clash, the previous European meetings between the two clubs had already pointed to a match full of emotion.
Lucas Hernandez named man of the match as Paris pull clear
Lucas Hernandez was named man of the match, rewarded for a performance marked by his goal and defensive work. The distinction was particularly significant: the French defender was making his first Champions League start in two years. His return to the forefront gives Luis Enrique an additional option, particularly in a defensive area already without Nuno Mendes.
Before the match, Paris topped the league phase with six points, ahead of second-placed FC Barcelona on the same total. Following this result, PSG now have nine points from three matches, compared with six for Barcelona. The exact standings after matchday three will depend on all the matches played on Tuesday and Wednesday. For the Parisians, however, this third consecutive European victory strengthens their bid for direct qualification to the round of 16.
