Young Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim made an instant impact for the FC Barcelona first team on Sunday scoring within minutes of his introduction in a pre season friendly against Swiss club FC Basel.

Instant impact off the bench

The friendly fixture kicked off at 15:30 GMT as both clubs stepped up their preparations for the upcoming 2026 /27 campaign.

Barcelona broke the deadlock in the 34th minute courtesy of Karim Adeyemi before Basel leveled the score in the 43rd minute through Jean Doucouré.

With the match tied 1-1 at the break, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick turned to his bench introducing Abdelkarim at the start of the second half.

The Egyptian prospect required just four minutes to make his mark. In the 49th minute, Abdelkarim met a well placed delivery from Adeyemi finding the back of the net on just his second touch of the match to restore Barcelona's lead.

Abdelkarim’s clinical finish arrives at an opportune moment as Flick assesses his attacking options ahead of the new season.

Following the departures of Robert Lewandowski & Ferran Torres, Barcelona’s coaching staff has actively explored internal solutions to provide depth across the frontline.

While pre season friendlies serve primarily to build fitness seizing his limited minutes with an immediate goal significantly boosts Abdelkarim's chances of remaining in first team contention.
