World Cup 2026: a manager resigns

Steve Clarke's journey as head coach of the Scotland national team has come to an end. The Scottish Football Association has officially confirmed the resignation of the 62-year-old manager, just hours after the team's elimination from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

Placed in Group C, Scotland managed to collect only three points from three matches. Their sole victory came against Haiti, while Brazil and Morocco secured wins in the other two games. This record was not enough to secure a place in the round of 16.

At the helm since May 2019, Steve Clarke led the Scottish side for seven years. Under his guidance, Scotland played 81 matches, recording 38 wins, 14 draws, and 29 defeats. His departure now opens a new chapter for the Scottish national team, which will need to quickly appoint a new manager to prepare for the upcoming international fixtures.
