Japan was held to a 2-2 draw by the Netherlands in a hard-fought 2026 World Cup match, but all eyes quickly turned to the condition of Takefusa Kubo.

Substituted during the game after a collision, the attacking midfielder was initially able to leave the field unaided. However, after the match, he was seen in a wheelchair—a sight that immediately sparked concern. There is still no clear diagnosis for his injury. "I think I'm okay, but I don’t really know what happened," he admitted cautiously.

On the Japanese side, the medical staff remains cautious. Coach Hajime Moriyasu said they are awaiting further tests before making any statements about the severity of the situation. Kubo’s participation for the rest of the World Cup remains uncertain, pending the results of medical examinations.
