FIFA has put an end to speculation by giving its full backing to Brazilian referee Raphaël Claus. In an official statement, the organization reaffirmed its complete confidence in the official, despite the criticism voiced in recent days.

The controversy erupted after the decision to suspend the sanction handed to Folarin Balogun, who was sent off during the United States' match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Thanks to this ruling, the American striker was able to play in the round of 16 against Belgium. This move sparked a wave of reactions, including a strong rebuke from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had sharply criticized the case.

In response, FIFA emphasized that Raphaël Claus is an experienced referee, renowned for his professionalism and integrity. The organization, through the Referees Committee led by Pierluigi Collina, stated that it saw no reason to question his work. Ultimately, Balogun's presence did not change the outcome of the match: the United States fell 4-1 to Belgium.
