During the 2026 World Cup, FIFA quietly suspended two officials from the U.S. federation ahead of the Americans’ heavy defeat against Belgium.

A U.S. Soccer spokesperson confirmed the suspensions without further comment, referring all questions to FIFA, which has also remained silent.

Indeed, the governing body published three separate disciplinary forecasts for this matchday, a unique occurrence in the entire tournament. Balogun was initially set to serve an automatic suspension after being sent off against Bosnia and Herzegovina, before FIFA intervened to overturn the ban, sparking intense controversy. The American striker ultimately received a $40,000 fine for entering the pitch during celebrations despite his exclusion.

So far, Pannell and Zapatka appear to be the only officials sanctioned at this World Cup, according to information available on the FIFA website.
