Tunisia's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the group stage leaves Hervé Renard with no regrets. Called up in an emergency after the opening match to replace Sabri Lamouchi, the French coach knew his task would be extremely challenging.

Defeated in succession by Japan (4-0) and then by the Netherlands (3-1), the Carthage Eagles left the tournament without ever managing to turn things around. Despite this record, Hervé Renard stands by his decision to accept this last-minute assignment:

The federation offered me a very short-term mission. I accepted because I wanted to experience this World Cup from the inside, rather than watching it on television. I had nothing to lose.

The former head coach of several African national teams made no excuses when analyzing his team's performances:

We simply weren't up to the standard of this World Cup. We have to acknowledge that. We were in a very tough group, up against high-quality opponents.

Before stepping down, Renard made a point to thank his players for their efforts, while calling on Tunisia's football leaders to start a thorough review.
