Turkey have bowed out of the 2026 World Cup after just two rounds. A 1-0 loss to Paraguay following a 2-0 defeat to Australia means the Turks were clearly lacking attacking efficiency in front of goal.

The real problem was up front. 62 shots in two games without scoring a single goal—a record for attacking futility. No team in World Cup history has attempted this many shots in two matches without finding the back of the net since 1966.

Against Australia and then Paraguay, Arda Güler and his teammates dominated stretches of play and created real chances, but the finishing touch was missing every time.

Turkey will look to salvage some pride in their final Group D match against the United States, the group leaders who have already secured qualification.
