Zitha Kwinika pinpoints area of improvement ahead of Siwelele tie

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has highlighted a key area of improvement ahead of their Betway Premiership encounter against Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Glamour Boys head into the match looking to snap a run of two successive draws as they currently sit fourth on the log standings with eight points accumulated, having been leapfrogged by AmaZulu FC into third place.

On the other hand, Siwelele are desperately searching for their first win of the 2026/27 campaign, having settled for two defeats and as many draws, which has them in 14th place on the table.

Now, with the clash on the horizon, Kwinika says his team must up the ante in defense, with Chiefs proving leaky after conceding five goals in five matches across all competitions, keeping a solitary clean sheet in the process.

“We must not concede goals. I think now we are scoring, so when we don't concede goals then it gives us an opportunity in winning games,” said the Chiefs stalwart when quizzed on a key area of improvement.

"So, that's just the thin line in that - not to concede goals and score as many goals as we can to be able to win a football match.

With head coach Fernando da Cruz entrusting youngsters, including Mfundo Vilakazi, Luke Baartman, and Mduduzi Shabalala amongst others in attack, the centre-half has backed the Chiefs talents to shoulder the responsibility of scoring goals.

“There's no small players at Kaizer Chiefs. This is Kaizer Chiefs, they know the responsibility, we're moving away from that mindset of small players and big players,” Kwinika added.

"We are all here to represent [the club], they know what's required. Once you come and sign that [contract], you've been told what's at stake, what is required for you to survive.

"So, we're moving away from the small players mentality, these are big boys, ready to work, they are working for their families and they know what it takes for them to represent the brand.

Whether Chiefs will return to winning ways at the expense of Siwelele remains to be seen as they failed to beat the Bloemfontein-based outfit in the previous campaign, where they played to a draw and lost the other match.
