FIFA has announced the officiating crew for the headline Group J match at the World Cup between Argentina and Austria. The selection features an Egyptian refereeing trio, joined by two Spanish officials.

Amin Mohamed has been chosen to ensure the smooth running of this pivotal Group J encounter on matchday two of the 2026 World Cup. He will be assisted by his compatriots Mahmoud Abouelregal and Ahmed Hossam Taha.

Spain’s Alejandro Hernandez and Diego Sanchez will serve as fourth official and reserve assistant referee, respectively, for the match scheduled for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 5pm GMT.

Argentina kicked off their title defense in style with a 3-0 win over Algeria, while Austria overcame Jordan 3-1. This clash will serve as the decider at the top of the group.

It’s worth noting that Amine Mohamed and his two assistants previously officiated the match between South Korea and the Czech Republic, played last week at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara.

Several Egyptian referees have officiated at past World Cups, including Youssef Mohamed (1934), Ali Kandil (1966 and 1970), Mustafa Kamel Mahmoud (1974), Hassan Abdel-Majid (1994), Gamal El-Ghandour (1998, 2002), Essam Abdel-Fattah (2006), and Gehad Grisha (2018).
