Against Egypt on Monday, Belgium could do no better than a draw in Seattle (1-1) in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup.

After the match, Rudi Garcia expressed his disappointment at how easily Egypt managed to advance into the Red Devils’ half. The Belgian coach insisted that a win against Iran is now a must if they want to reach the knockout stage of the tournament.

“Matches at a tournament like the World Cup are always tough, especially against one of Africa’s best teams. We can’t afford to give them space or let them grow in confidence. They scored with their first shot, which is never good, because it reinforces their game plan. We managed to equalize thanks to a substitute, and we even had the chance to win it. Reacting was crucial. In the end, this draw means we now have to go for victory against Iran,” said the Red Devils’ head coach.
