As the 2026 World Cup approaches, Christian Gourcuff hasn't hidden his attachment to Algeria. In an interview with Africafoot, the former Greens coach revealed he would be closely following the national team's journey at the global event.

While he insists he is not a supporter in the strictest sense, the French tactician maintains a special bond with Algerian football.
"I wouldn't say I'm a supporter of Algeria, but I will watch them with great interest," he told Africafoot.

The former Fennecs coach also expressed his hope that the team will have a successful World Cup campaign. Speaking about his relationship with the president of the Algerian Football Federation, Walid Sadi, he stated:
"I had a very good relationship with Walid Sadi. I've kept good relations with him, and great memories. Just for him, I hope Algeria does well at the World Cup."
