2026 World Cup - DR Congo: Yoane Wissa reflects on his leadership role
DR Congo had a scare against Uzbekistan (3-1) on Saturday night into Sunday. But thanks to Yoane Wissa, the Leopards managed to turn the game around and secure qualification for the round of 16 at this 2026 World Cup.
After the match, Yoane Wissa embraced his status.
"I try to take this weight on my shoulders so I can free up my teammates. I embrace this leadership role, because that's who I am today. And I am proud to be the leader of DR Congo. I don't take on this responsibility just to show off, but to bring the best out of the team and the players around me. Today, I did it with flying colors. That's what I've been trying to do since joining the national team. Today, I'm very proud of what I did, very proud of what my teammates did. We need everyone, and I try to motivate everyone," said the Newcastle striker in the mixed zone.
