Argentina will face Cape Verde in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

The match is set for next Saturday. Cape Verde should not be underestimated—at least, that's the warning from head coach Lionel Scaloni.

"Cape Verde gave Spain—a top contender—a real challenge, even though Spain deserved to win. Uruguay couldn’t beat them, nor could Saudi Arabia. Based on what I’ve seen from Cape Verde as a team, I wasn’t surprised by their qualification. They looked every opponent in the eye. It would be pointless to say they’re not a tough opponent, because that would be a lie: they are, and they’ll give us a tough test too. We need to be careful. This team plays well, they have quality, they’re a good, quick side," explained the Argentine coach.
