2026 World Cup - Ivory Coast: Elye Wahi does not understand his ban
Elye Wahi will not be able to play in Ivory Coast’s second match of this 2026 World Cup against Germany.
The Ivorian forward was not granted entry into Canada. The Ivorian Football Federation released a statement explaining: “the necessary administrative authorizations for his entry into Canada could not be obtained.”
A few hours ago, it emerged that Elye Wahi had been taken into police custody in May. He is suspected of deliberately picking up a yellow card during the Nice-Metz match, allegedly connected to suspicious betting activity. The connection between this incident and the refusal of his Canadian visa was quickly established, though not officially confirmed, and this narrative continues to gain traction.
According to RMC, the Ivorian striker is baffled by the negative response, especially since no official reason was provided to justify the refusal.
