2026 World Cup: Lionel Scaloni sends a message to the Argentine people

Another statement, one week after the final of the 2026 World Cup. Lionel Scaloni has broken his silence with a heartfelt message to Argentina's supporters following the defeat against Spain.

The Argentina head coach acknowledged his disappointment at not being able to bring home another trophy for the Argentine people. Scaloni made a point to defend his team’s journey, highlighting the character, relentless effort, and resilience shown by his players. He also addressed the criticism his squad has faced.

"After an intense week where sadness mixed with joy, tears with smiles, anxiety with serenity, nerves with calm, I can finally sit down to write a few words. Even though you know I'm not a big fan of social media, maybe this is the best way to reach you. All I can say is that I'm sorry we couldn't bring you another title and give you a new moment of joy that, even if just for a few days, might help you forget all the ugliness in life. But I want you to remember what we tried to show you through this group of players—my warriors, as I called them when speaking to my wife. The effort, the desire, the will, the 'I can do it,' the refusal to give up (even when things get tough), giving everything (even when you have nothing left), enduring bucketloads of cold water (FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN KNOW US), composure, the will to stay standing when your legs no longer obey your mind... That is the real trophy. I am eternally grateful to my technical staff, my players, the AFA staff, those who work silently to make us comfortable, and every one of you for the affection you've shown us.
