Lionel Messi further cemented his place in football history on Monday night by becoming the all-time top scorer in World Cup history. Miroslav Klose made sure to publicly acknowledge his achievement.

The former German striker, who previously held the record, graciously accepted being surpassed. Miroslav Klose even offered unreserved praise for Lionel Messi. In a statement to Süddeutsche Zeitung, the German declared: "Lionel Messi is, for me, the greatest footballer of all time. Congratulations, champion!"

Even before being dethroned, Klose was already full of admiration and had anticipated this moment: "the record was bound to be broken sooner or later, and I'm thrilled that Messi did it."
