With two defeats in this 2026 World Cup, Senegal finds itself in serious trouble for a spot in the round of 16.

Faced with this challenging situation, the head coach of the Lions of Teranga, Pape Thiaw, refuses to throw in the towel.

"It's a bit early to talk about failure. This is a competition, the aim is to try to qualify. Right now, we're not out yet. Of course, it's tough given our position. It's true this is the first time Senegal has started a World Cup with two straight losses, but we still have a chance. The most important thing now is to play the last match, try to get the win, and, why not, score more goals to improve our goal difference. After that, if we qualify, I think it becomes a different tournament," the Senegalese coach told the press.

Against Iraq next Friday, Senegal can still aim for a spot in the round of 16 among the best third-placed teams.
