For the first time in its history, across four World Cup appearances, Senegal under Pape Thiaw has suffered back-to-back defeats.

It's a dark spell for the Lions of Teranga, who are usually a solid force at this level and were tipped as dark horses capable of shaking up the established order. Against France and Norway, the Senegalese alternated between promising moments and more difficult spells, but couldn't manage to turn things around for good.

Now with their backs against the wall, Senegal no longer controls its own destiny. The Lions must win their final group match against Iraq and hope for a favorable ranking among the best third-placed teams.
