The opening day of Group A at the 2026 World Cup brings us an unpredictable showdown between South Korea and Czechia. Two teams with contrasting styles, but only one goal: to start the tournament on the right foot and take a big step toward a spot in the round of 16.

South Korea are seasoned campaigners at this tournament, making their 11th consecutive appearance. Their best finish remains that famous fourth place on home soil in 2002. Heung-min Son and his teammates are determined to go further than their round of 16 exit four years ago.

On the other side, Czechia are returning to the World Cup finals for the first time in 20 years. Back in 2006 in Germany, Pavel Nedved and his teammates were knocked out in the group stage.

This clash is scheduled for Friday, June 12 at 2:00 GMT at Estadio Guadalajara.

Head-to-head history

The record between these two sides is perfectly balanced. In three friendlies, there has been one draw (2-2) in 1998 and one win each.

The Czechs won 5-0 in 2001, while the South Koreans claimed a 2-1 victory more recently, in 2016.
