South Korea kicked off the 2026 World Cup in the best possible way, securing a valuable victory over Czech Republic (2-1) in Guadalajara.

After a first half full of chances but short on goals, the Czechs took the lead just before the hour mark. Off a long throw-in, Ladislav Krejčí found the back of the net with a well-placed header to put his team ahead.

Unfazed, the South Koreans responded quickly. In fine form, In-Beom Hwang brought his side level with a brilliant solo effort inside the box.

The Asian side continued to dominate and was rewarded in the 80th minute. Picked out in the box by Hwang, Hyeon-Gyu Oh beat the Czech goalkeeper to score the winning goal.

With this win, South Korea gets off to an excellent start in the tournament and already finds itself in a strong position in the race for a spot in the round of 32.
