DR Congo made a strong start. At Stade des Martyrs, the Leopards defeated Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mbemba opens the scoring

Sébastien Desabre’s men wasted no time. In the second minute of the match, captain Chancel Mbemba rose high to head home the opener from a free kick expertly delivered by Nathan M’Buku. 1-0, a lead the national team held until half-time.

Wissa seals the victory

After the break, the Congolese continued to apply pressure. In the 72nd minute, Yoane Wissa doubled the lead following a fine team move, definitively securing the win for DR Congo.

A perfect start

With this 2-0 win over Equatorial Guinea , DR Congo move top of Group E in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. In the same group, Lesotho and Zimbabwe will meet at 19:00 GMT.
