Al-Ahli: Edouard Mendy returns strong after two-month absence
After two months since his last appearance, Edouard Mendy is back. The Senegal international goalkeeper reclaimed his spot between the sticks for Al-Ahli this Saturday and marked his return in the best way possible.
Al-Ahli completely dominated Abha with a resounding 4-0 victory in the second round of the Saudi Roshn League. After being rested in the opening round and following a 2-1 win in the King’s Cup on August 17, the 34-year-old keeper returned and didn’t allow a single ball past him.
Solid return
Since his injury on June 23 during the 2-3 defeat to Norway in the World Cup, Mendy has quickly regained his match sharpness. The 34-year-old shot-stopper kept a clean sheet with three crucial saves from inside the penalty area. The former Chelsea star continues his trademark excellence, inspiring confidence in the fans right from his first game back. He was even named man of the match. A rewarding comeback by all standards.
Al-Ahli’s ambitions
With this return, Al-Ahli has its reliable goalkeeper back. The Saudi club is aiming this season to clinch the Saudi Roshn League title and, above all, to defend their crown in the AFC Champions League. Mendy’s successful comeback couldn’t have come at a better time for the Green Battalion.
